Recently, I needed some information on lighting up of a stage for a photo shoot. I asked for help from a couple of my friends who are interested in photography. They came up with some extremely useful links. I would like to share them with you.

Results of general elections in India are announced a few days back. This time, many of the candidates used the latest technologies like blogs, twitter, Orkut groups, Flash banner ads in websites, SMS campaigning… Also we saw a lot of public service ads urging citizens to use their fundamental right to vote.
In my college, this year’s Students’ Council Elections were held on 16-May-2009. I got the opportunity to design a series of posters to inform students about the election. Time frame for executing the work was very short.

Once I got the opportunity to look behind the closed doors of tinyurl.com. It was highly dangerous. A split second’s mistake, I am done for. Anyway, I took the chance. And do you know what I saw? A goat!
Recruitment? In these troubled times? Well, don’t jump to draft an e-mail. I am talking about the making of recruitment press ads about two years ago.
The Premise
In 2007, the technology company, where I worked, was thinking about conducting a walk-in interview to attract new talent to fill in some positions. Handouts were to be printed and a newspaper advertisement must be given. I was approached to do the design. A couple of samples were given to me. I started my work.

It was an instantaneous decision. I have done something similar in a webpage a couple of years back. But it didn’t see the light of the day.
Today morning, I realised that the date is 01-Apr-2009: April Fool’s day. I suddenly remembered my old prank and decided to re-do it in Twitter.
“How can I make a good portfolio?”
A designer cannot survive without a portfolio. I decided to do an exploration in internet to find an answer to the above question. After several days of burning the midnight oil, I found many resources in web.
I compiled them neatly and made a presentation file.
“Why you design guys don’t have a logo?”

The Necessity
After hearing this question for the ‘n’th time, we finally decided to design a logo for the unavoidable ‘shameless self promotion.’
Frankly, it is not easy. The beauty of a design is very subjective. When you work with a client, the thrill lies in figuring out a design that appeals to him. The challenge is to satisfy the client with the least iteration of the design.

Have you ever lost your way?
I don’t know about you, but I am generally fortunate in ‘losing my way.’ And, I am always hesitant to ask for directions. I circle the same place many times, trying out one exit option at a time and lose half an hour in the process.
How good is good?
“Necessity is the mother of Invention” — although Calvin (of Calvin & Hobbes) may not share the enthusiasm. We wanted to conduct a survey about online advertisements and we were looking for a ‘good’ tool. The word ‘good’ was difficult to achieve. Google search produced a ton of online survey websites, but they didn’t cater to our specific requirements. Even after an hour of googling we didn’t manage to hit the right keywords.
